What this paper ads: This VASCUNET study included over 200 000 carotid procedures from 13 countries and confirmed that no significant sex related differences were found in peri-operative complication rates after interventions for carotid stenosis. The outcome was similar for both symptomatic and asymptomatic interventions, as well as for carotid endarterectomy and stenting. Practice patterns in participating countries were different; the biggest differences were seen in the provision of carotid artery stenting and the proportion of asymptomatic patients.
